Another Big Win! VCDL and GOA teamed up to fight the Universal Background Checks (UBC) in Virginia. The suit was filed in 2020. We finally received the decision in October of 2025! The order is not effective until signed, so watch your email for updates.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) was founded in October 1994 as the Northern Virginia Citizens Defense League (NVCDL). The group experienced enormous growth in membership statewide and was incorporated as VCDL in May of 1998.
VCDL is actively fighting to defend your right to defend yourself, right here in Virginia. We take care that the vast majority of the funds you entrust to us go toward this mission, not to pay for fancy offices or high salaries. We appreciate you joining and supporting this battle!

VCDL IS WORKING TO LOWER CHP FEES!
The Virginia Code Section setting fees for the concealed handgun permit were written many years ago. Since then, the fingerprinting requirement has been repealed, and background checks have become much less labor intensive. This has reduced the cost to localities, yet the maximum fee has not changed. Let's work to correct this! You can see what the fee is in your locality by clicking this link. Watch the VA-ALERT for updates on what the CHP Committee is doing, and for notices when you need to take action in your jurisdiction.
